What Is A Non-Passive Alarm System?

Installing a car alarm system is very important since everyone wants to avoid car theft and get discounts from car insurance companies for getting an alarm system. Car owners usually have the option of two main alarm systems: a passive alarm and a non-passive alarm, also known as an active alarm system.

An active or non-passive alarm system is the one that is manually activated every time you exit your car. If anyone tries to open it, the alarm will go off, and the system will disable the vehicle’s starter, ignition system, and fuel circuit.

A non-passive alarm system needs an action to be turned on. Usually, the action is clicking a remote to set the alarm. Some features of a non-passive alarm system are similar to passive alarm brands — for example, remote starting or remote keyless entry.

One major advantage of a non-passive alarm system is that the driver can turn it on whenever it is convenient. This enables the driver to turn the ignition off and do other things simultaneously without the alarm going off. Most people enjoy the control that a non-passive alarm system offers. However, some find it a significant disadvantage always to have to turn the alarm system on.

Moreover, an auto insurance discount that a non-passive alarm system gets is usually modest. Insurance companies do not approve all types of car alarm systems as they ensure that the car alarm system is professionally installed before qualifying the vehicle owner for a premium discount.

The premium discount is a must-have to reduce the risk of car vandalizing and car theft since passive or non-passive car alarm systems alone can not prevent car theft.

Some people find the alarm sound annoying and prefer not to install it. Knowing how to disable your car alarm system might also come in handy if something goes wrong with it. Check out Security Forward’s article to learn how to disable a car alarm permanently.
